Lacco Ameno is the oldest settlement on the island.
Lacco Ameno has an area of ??2. 7 square kilometers with a population of about 4500 inhabitants. The altitude ranges from 0 meters above sea level to 300 of Fango. The municipality of Lacco Ameno occupies the north-western part of the island and stretches along the sea and the slopes of Mount Epomeo.
And ‘the smallest town of the island, but not the least known. Notes are its waters of Legni, Capitello, Santa Restituta, Regina Isabella, San Montano and the thermal sands of Santa Restituta and the steamy cave of San Lorenzo.
In the ’50s, thanks to the publisher and film producer Angelo Rizzoli (who gave the town the only hospital on the island), which adopted the town of Lacco Ameno, the ancient Baths Queen Isabella’ were extended and a hotel complex. So within a few years, Lacco Ameno and the whole island as a consequence, became the center of a cosmopolitan worldliness.
Lacco Ameno is characterized by a rock called “the mushroom” for its singular shape. It is within walking distance of the shore, and is a high green tuff 10 meters down from Mount Epomeo. important monuments: the Sanctuary of S Restituta with its annexed excavation sites and museum, the church of S. Maria delle Grazie, the church of SS. Assumption, St. Joseph’s Church, Tower of Montevico, Villa Arbusto with its park and the Archaeological Museum of Pithekusa.
