The therapeutic properties of Ischia sludge arise from the continuous admixture of mud and water hyperthermal sources which, thanks to its chemical components and its high temperature (79 ° C) changes the chemical and physical properties of the sludge resulting in the formation of Humominerali units and the production of pharmacologically active substances responsible for the therapeutic efficacy in bone and joint diseases.
The mud is applied on the skin gradually, at a temperature of 40 ° / 42 ° C, avoiding the front chest area, head and genitals. The duration of mud therapy is prescribed by the Health Department. At the end of mud therapy the patient is taken out of the mud and, after being washed with a hot shower, immersed in the thermal bath at a temperature of 37 ° / 30 ° C for a time of 8-10 minutes. After the bath the patient, dried with warm cloths, is well filled for the sweating process.
